Edgecombe County Memorial Library Summer Reading Program Schedule

Events in the Community

June 20thSummer Reading Program Kickoff (10:00 am)

Our kickoff this year will be held at the M. A. Ray Center (1405 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr). Registration will begin at 10:00 am and our performer will begin at 10:30 am. Our performer this year is the amazing Fish the Magish [www.fishthemagish.com].

June 24th-July 30th East Smart and Move, Move, Move with Yvonne Murphy

Join us for a 5 week nutrition camp providing innovative ways to help young people learn how to make wise choices that will be beneficial to their overall health. Please call the library at 252-823-1141 to sign up. There will be fun, games, and food tasting.  Dates and times listed below.

July 2nd To be announced (9:30 am)

The first 150 children and parents to sign up* will get a ticket to go to the movies free @ a special Parkhill Cinema showing in Tarboro. Snacks will be available for purchase at the movie theater. Participants will need to be at the theatre by 9:30 am. Space is limited so sign up now .

July 15th Big Bang Boom! (1:00 pm)

Join us at Edgecombe Community College in the Keihin Auditorium for a special musical performance by “Big Bang Boom!” Fun for all ages. Come dance, jump, sing and rock out with the band. [http://bigbangboom.weebly.com/index.html]

July 25th Professor Parsnip’s Lab of Healthy Choices (10:00 am)

Wacky Professor Parsnip will take you on an adventure through science, teaching lessons on how to make good choices in diet, exercise and environment along the way. Exciting science experiments from the lab of Professor Parnsip reinforce healthy habits and good character traits. Interactive and fun. Make this science show a must-see! July 31stNative American History, Culture and Primitive Skills (10:00 am)

Come join naturalist Brett Butler as he discusses Native American history and culture. He also demonstrates some primitive Native American skills including setting up a real tipi. August 6th— Summer Reading Program Wrap-up Party (10:30 am)

Join us at the M. A. Ray Center for a special program by Sciencetellers. Join us as we learn about the science of fire and ice through the tale of "Dragons & Dreams." Wouldn't dragon's breath be an amazing sight to see?! Well, get ready to see it ... feel it ... smell it ... maybe even taste it! This story features interactive science experiments with dry ice, flash paper, exploding bottles, and much more. Prizes will be awarded to our top readers from each age category.
